HOW TO INSTALL / RUN WINDOWS BASED APPLICATIONS IN UBUNTU

                 I asked to some of my friends “when you know that windows is more prone to virus then why do you keep windows as your primary operating system” and the answer which i received from them  is that “there are so many application on windows that are not available on ubuntu.  Many games and applications like notepad++,adobe photoshop, bla bla bla are not available on ubuntu, this is the reason why we get hooked up with windows thats why we don’t prefer to switch to ubuntu
               
                
                  To my friends and to those who are there and currently reading this post, I would like to tell you that this is not true in case of ubuntu and for sure the application which run on windows can be made to run on ubuntu. Its as easy as double click is to run any application on windows isn’t it if you don’t agree on what i say just finish reading this post and i am sure you will be dazzled. 

                
                 Wine is a free and open source software application created by Alexandre Julliard, which runs windows like application on unix like operating system. its stable version 1.6.2 was released on  JAN 10,2014. its simple to install and easy to configure.Lets know how to install it.
NOTE:The below given steps to install will work on (Ubuntu 11.10 to 13.10) and (Linux mint 13 to 16)

                          TO INSTALL WINE FOLLOW THE STEPS GIVE BELOW

1) Open the terminal or press “ALT+CTRL+T”

2)After the terminal is opened type the following command into the terminal one  by one      

NOTE: While wine
is getting installed it will show you an agreement to accept, you just hit tab
button and choose yes/ok so that it will install it

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install wine1.6

    TO INSTALL WINDOWS APPLICATION THROUGH WINE FOLLOW THE STEPS GIVEN BELOW                 
                                     

 The windows application which you want to install, the installer file should be with you. open the terminal and move to the directory where your software (.exe file) is present and type the command given below

$ wine applicationnamewhichyouwanttoinstall

for eg

 



                   COUNTER STRIKE WAR ZONE INSTALLATION ON UBUNTU

Copy the counterstrike.exe file on directory of your choice and then open the terminal and navigate to that directory and type the following command

                wine Counter-Strike.exe

  
Click on next to install counter strike

Navigate to the folder where you want to install Counter Strike and then click next
 

Click on the finish button

then double click on the counter strike shortcut created on the desktop

That’s it now you can play Counter strike
